About Aileen Schumacher
I am a registered professional engineer and have owned and managed an engineering
consulting firm with my husband, Richard Blum, since 1982. From 1991 - 2002, I
also ran a technical
supply company that provided equipment and materials to both domestic and foreign markets.
I also am the author of A Guide to Hazardous Materials (Quorum/Greenwood, 1988), a
well-received technical book. Engineered for Murder was my first mystery.

Richard, my Number
One Groupie
|
As a native Texan transplanted to Florida by
way of New Mexico and Washington, I started out as a biologist, working my way through
college at New Mexico State University as a desert study field technician. Awarded a
summer fellowship to Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, I fell in love with engineering,
and switched to researching the effect of industrial wastewater on municipal sewage
treatment systems. I have a degree in Civil Engineering, and, in addition to
my professional engineer certification, I am a Certified Hazardous
Materials Manager. |
Aileen and Buddy |
This is a recent (November 2000) photo of me
at home. The photographer had to enlist the efforts of Buddy-the-Dog so
I'd stop looking as though I were about to be executed. My son found Buddy
on his first day of Kindergarten. (My son's first day of Kindergarten, not
the dog's--it's so important to try and write this stuff accurately.)
Buddy has survived being a stray, having a heart murmur, contracting hepatitis,
and having a BB lodged at the base of his neck, 0.25 inch from his spine.
All in all, a good dog for a mystery writer. |

The Divine Miss N
|
My daughter, The Divine Miss N, is now a
junior communications major at Auburn University, in spite of extensive
efforts to lure her back to Florida on the part of her parents. She has
already completed a minor in Spanish, but leaves me on my own to proof
accent marks related to Spanish profanity. |

The Murder Consultant |
My son, Kevin-the-Murder-Consultant, is now
over six feet tall and still getting taller. He completed his senior year
in high school while running cross country, serving on the Honor Councils
and playing lacrosse. With all his front teeth still intact, he will be
attending Barry University in the fall. |
